DR. JOHN F. RINK: Long-term treatment planning involves beginning with the end in mind. Our goals for our patients are overall long-term health, function, comfort, and beauty. With a thorough examination we look at bite issues, gum and bone health issues, we check for decay, and we also use computerized digital radiography or CDR X-rays which decrease the radiation exposure for our patients by 90% and also increases our ability to accurately diagnose disease. Another part of our examination process is the examination of the teeth with a microscope. Microscopic evaluation of teeth enables us to find damage that occurs early, before tooth loss occurs. Taking the examination information, spending time in diagnosis, and then in consultation with our patients to describe what we have discovered in our examination and diagnostic process enables us to develop long term goals for our patient so that they can keep their teeth healthy for a lifetime.
