Same-Day Crowns in Charleston

At Charleston Center for Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry, we know it can be difficult for patients to fit dental appointments into their busy schedules. Dedicated to providing outstanding and convenient dentistry, Dr. John Rink is proud to offer same-day crowns at his Charleston practice. Using our advanced CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology, we can fabricate incredibly natural-looking crowns while you wait in our office.

What Are Dental Crowns?

For centuries, patients have relied upon dental crowns to provide damaged teeth with much-needed support. After decay and damage have been removed from the tooth, a dental crown is fitted like a cap over the remaining healthy tooth structure.

With recent advancements in dental technology, today’s crowns are more lifelike in look and feel than ever before, and can blend in beautifully with your natural teeth. Very often, a dental crown is the final step in a root canal treatment. Other times, crowns are used to anchor a dental bridge or to conceal conspicuous aesthetic imperfections.

What Are CEREC Same-Day Crowns?

Traditionally, crowns are crafted at an off-site laboratory using wax-based impressions and pictures of your teeth. This method requires two office visits over the course of two to three weeks. With our innovative CEREC technology, Dr. Rink can fabricate and place a crown in a single, easy appointment. During this procedure, Dr. Rink will take digital images of your treated tooth.

These images are then transmitted directly into a chairside computer that uses sophisticated software to create a detailed, three-dimensional map of your tooth. This information is used to guide the milling machine, which will use diamond-tipped tools to create the crown from a single block of porcelain.

This technology can fabricate top-quality crowns that restore your oral function, match the shade and contours of your surrounding teeth, and complement your facial features. The entire process takes about an hour. While you wait, you can simply relax in our office. When the crown is ready, Dr. Rink will ensure it fits properly and then attach it securely to your tooth. At this time, he can make any fine adjustments needed to achieve a balanced and comfortable bite.

What to Expect During Your Same-Day Crowns Procedure?

During your Same-Day Crowns procedure, Dr. Rink will first prepare the tooth by removing any damaged or decayed material. Then, a digital impression is taken, allowing us to create a precise 3D model of your tooth. Using advanced CEREC® technology, your custom crown is fabricated on-site in just a few hours. Once the crown is ready, Dr. Rink will check its fit and make any necessary adjustments before securely bonding it to your tooth. The entire process is completed in one visit, so you can leave with a fully restored smile the same day.

"Dr. Rink and his team made my experience with same-day crowns incredibly easy and comfortable. The entire process was quick, and I walked out with a beautiful, natural-looking crown in just one visit. I’m so impressed with the results and the level of care I received. Highly recommend!"

What Is the Recovery Like After Same-Day Crowns?

Recovery after your Same-Day Crowns procedure is typically quick and straightforward. Most patients experience little to no discomfort, as the procedure is minimally invasive. You may have slight sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures for the first few days, but this is temporary. You can return to your regular activities immediately, though it’s advisable to avoid chewing on hard foods for the first 24 hours to allow the crown to set properly. Dr. Rink will provide personalized aftercare instructions to ensure the longevity of your new crown and maintain optimal oral health.

What Are the Benefits of Same-Day Crowns?

CEREC crowns boast a number of advantages over traditional crowns. Thanks to this advanced technology, you will not have to worry about scheduling return visits to our office or wearing a temporary restoration between appointments.

CEREC crowns are also formed from dental-grade porcelain that has a translucent appearance and attractive sheen much like natural enamel. Additionally, these innovative crowns are extremely strong and durable, and with the right care, they can last for many years to come.
