What are Lumineers?

Porcelain Lumineers are a popular solution for various aesthetic dental concerns. They are incredibly thin (about 0.2-0.3 millimeters) and can be attached to the teeth without filing them down. Lumineers are very versatile and can be used over crowns and bridges. Moreover, they can last up to 20 years, and patients don’t have to change the way they eat or drink.

What are the benefits of Lumineers?

Traditional veneers are thicker than Lumineers and require the teeth to be filed down in order to be put in place. This procedure takes more time to complete and causes discomfort to the patient. Beyond that, temporary veneers have to be put in place before the permanent ones, making the treatment take even longer.
Lumineers, on the other hand, are incredibly thin and lightweight. Unlike with veneers, the teeth don’t need to be filed down in order to apply them. Through a less painful and more straightforward process, Lumineers can improve your smile. They can also treat:

  • Stains or discoloration
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Gaps in the teeth
  • Asymmetrical or crooked teeth
  • Small or unsightly teeth

What can I expect from the procedure?

Applying our Lumineers in Charleston, SC, usually happens over two separate office visits. As there is no requirement for drilling or temporaries, the process is much quicker and less painful. No temporaries are installed.

At the first appointment, the physician chooses a color for your restoration that matches your unique coloring and features. After this step, a mold is taken of your teeth and then sent to the lab, where it will be used to make your customized Lumineers.

After a few weeks, you will have your second visit. The dentist will attach the Lumineers to your teeth using an adhesive. This process can take up to an hour.

What is the recovery like?

Lumineers do not require any downtime. Patients can eat and drink normally without worrying about damaging them. It is recommended that you attend follow-up visits with your dentist every six months to check that the teeth and gum area are in good condition. It is essential that patients follow good oral hygiene, just as they would with their regular teeth. Since there isn’t much little filing down of the teeth with Lumineers, they can be removed at any time, without much hassle.

You can get the most out of your results by taking good care of your Lumineers and doing what your dentist instructs you to do. Many people enjoy the benefits of their enhanced smile for decades.

Who is a candidate?

Lumineers are designed for people that have healthy teeth but need to add some volume. Whether you have had teeth removed or you have some natural gaps in your teeth, our Lumineers in Charleston, SC, can make a big difference. This procedure is not recommended for people that have normally-sized teeth, as Lumineers can make them look too ‘bulky.’
