DR. JOHN F. RINK: Dentistry is something that I was able to find early in my career. A friend of mines dad who owned a cleaning business in my home town of Salisbury, North Carolina sat down with us high school seniors and we knocked around for a few months just what kind of careers we were going to try to establish and he put his arm around me one day and said “You know John, I think you would really enjoy being a dentist.” So I graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1983 and established my practice in North Carolina. I moved to Charleston in 1990 and throughout the first 7-years of my career I discovered that dentistry was an interesting field that you could continue to learn and could continue to grow and build upon the knowledgebase that was established in dental school. At this point I am now teaching at NUSC to help senior dental students and share the knowledge I have been able to gain over a lifetime of dental experience with them so that when the enter the private practice world they can start out hopefully a little further along then I was when I got started.

I have got a great staff, they are sweat and they love dentistry. You know, we have kind of our own joke around here and that is we are all a bunch of “tooth nerds.” And that’s true, we all kind of love dentistry and love working with teeth and patients and I think that is one of the things that makes our practice kind of a special place and I think that is something about me that I would like for my patients to know.
